Creating Havoc

First time to stop at Brand 10 in Ft. Worth to see Creating Havoc that included my friend Patrick Kelly.  A nice space in a strip shopping center, who would have thought, that reminded of my days with a space in Lewisville, Texas.

TEXAS Regionalism

Saw a nice exhibition of Texas Regionalist artists at the Amon Carter Museum today.

In the 1930's there was a thriving new arts scene in Dallas that was credited to some young painters that included Jerry Bywaters, Otis Dozier, Alexander Hogue, and Harry Carnohan.  The group became known as the Dallas Nine who along with patrons, writers, and architects formed the Dallas Artists League to discuss the latest issues in contemporary art.

Dorothy Antoinette (Toni) LaSelle

While visiting the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth today I encountered a nice surprise in form of 4 new paintings by Toni LaSelle. Toni LaSelle was one of the first Texas painters to fully commit to abstraction.  A true pioneer of Texas Modernism.

Brad Tucker at the Old Jail Art Center

Took a Saturday afternoon trip to Albany, Texas to see Brad Tucker's latest installation as part of the Cell Series at the Old Jail Art Center.

The Cell Series is a wonderful series of exhibitions curated by Pat Kelly that focuses on emerging and established Texas artists.  I wish Albany was a hundred miles closer to Dallas.

For Brad's site specific installation in two almost identical jail cells he built the work based on his recent adventure in Real Estate.  The separate installations nearly mirror each other and magnify the differences resulting in contemplation and satisfaction.

The first Installation you encounter as you climb the stairs into the 2nd floor cells.
Left to Right: Receiver, Broadbands, Hashmack Tray, Transmitter.
All 2013, acrylic and enamel on wood

Entering through heavy iron doors across from the 1st cell is Brad's 2nd almost identical installation.
L to R: Dim Widths, Ham Shack, Butter Dish
All 2013, acrylic and enamel on wood

Destiny

I was visiting a friend  recently and pleasantly surprised to see this small gem.  I knew instantly who made it, however I still asked for confirmation.  Then I asked if I could take a photo.

"Destiny", 2007, 4x4x5 inches, alabaster malachite and marble.

Her work resonates and sometimes never leaves.  I believe she wouldn’t have it any other way.   She does what every attentive art patron wants – she is serious about her work, she takes risks, uses unconventional materials, pushes herself to create the best and smartest work possible.   If you are not familiar with her work just google “Celia Eberle”.   RR
