Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth
We stopped by the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth to see "Glen Ligon AMERICA" mid-career retrospective. This exhibition does not disappoint. If you are easily offended by words just stay away. My favorites were the door paintings from the 90's. These were large mostly monochromic paintings with phrases such as "I remember the very day I became colored" and "I do not always feel colored" stenciled from top to bottom of the painting. Steve Murphy at William Campbell
I visited Steve Murphy's exhibition at William Campbell Contemporary Art in Fort Worth on the last day. I have been interested in Steve's work for a long time and this was the first solo exhibition I had a chance to see. This exhibition needed much more space to be more effective. Sometimes galleries and artists want to put as much as possible in an exhibition that it appears to be somewhat desperate. This is my observation of the exhibition and not the work which I quite enjoyed.
I would like to have this piece in my front yard.

Part III
My much anticipated 3rd trip and visit to Michael Wynne's studio in Kirvin was again great fun, friendship and successful. This time hopeful that I would have an opportunity to visit each painting in the Abscess series. This series continues to challenge me and I need to dig deeper into this body of work. This series should be seen at large. Michael and his work is influenced by the pop and minimalist movements from the 50's, 60's and 70's. As well, he is influenced by pop music from the 60's and 70's, in particular the Rolling Stones (Yellow??). While looking at these paintings (currently 6 6x4 paintings) I can't help but think these are a direct result of, knowing the environment around Michael's studio, his home town disappearing from the landscape, the Rolling Stones and Robert Rauschenberg.

A New Kissed Out Red Float Boat
new work by CJ Davis at Plush Gallery.
CJ has done it again, he has created a complete new body of work in new media for his latest exhibition at Plush Gallery. CJ seems to be having a great time making his art and it shows in his latest work. The gallery was packed most of the evening including his family which flew in for the opening from South Carolina. Kevin Ruben Jacobs (Oliver Francis Gallery) performed on the hour for one minute (6, 7, 8 and 9pm) for the duration of the opening reception. Kevin peformed "Grandson" for CJ's mother.

Bill Davenport @ The Old Jail Art Center
After a 3-hour trip from Dallas we finally made it to the Old Jail Art Center for Bill Davenport's Junk Store installation. This is now my 5th version of Bill's Junk Shop installation I have seen and this was the most sparely filled space of any. And that was not bad. This installation featured more of Bill's work than the previous versions. This of course was obvious to me since I have been following Bill's work since the early 90's. This junk store version included a mini retrospective of Bill's work. Pieces from most phases of Bill's career were included. I was thrilled...Yes I had to take some work with me, however it was kind of sad that the work will evolve over the 3 month exhibition period - That is because I can't see how the exhibition will evolve over time.

Trip to Albany, Texas
Took a trip to Albany, Texas to attend Bill Davenport's exhibition at the Old Jail Art Center. Along the way and in town I took time to take photos of the buildings. Unlike what this pictures may portray, Albany is a beautiful small town that supports Texas artists in a BIG or bigger way than any major city in Texas does.
In the "Middle of Nowhere" we came across this small abandoned gas station that we had to stop at.
