Geometry in Reflection: Tommy Fitzpatrick / Margo Sawyer
September 4 – October 10, 2009
Reception: Friday, September 11, 6 – 8:30 PM with a brief gallery talk by the artists beginning at 6:30 PM
ARLINGTON–The Gallery at The University of Texas at Arlington is pleased to present Geometry in Reflection, an exhibition featuring two internationally exhibiting artists who address architectonic forms and color relationships in their work. Tommy Fitzpatrick is an Arlington-based artist whose acrylic paintings of urban buildings and their surroundings blur the boundary between photo-realism and abstraction. Margo Sawyer, a Professor of Sculpture/Studio Art at the University of Texas at Austin, uses geometric forms to create sculptural compositions of colorful panels displayed on the walls, floors or suspended from ceilings. Both artists are interested in transforming the geometry of the mundane into objects of contemplation and reflection.
In association with the exhibition, the artists will discuss their work in illustrated, hour-long presentations beginning at 12:30 PM in the Fine Arts Building Auditorium, Room 148. Sawyer will speak on Thursday, September 10 and Fitzpatrick will talk on Wednesday, September 30.
The exhibit and all events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and noon until 5 p.m. Saturday. The gallery is located in room 169 at the north end of the Fine Arts Building, 502 S. Cooper St. For more information, contact Benito Huerta or Patricia Healy (817) 272-5658.
The 2009-2010 exhibition schedule is made possible by the generous support of Arlington Camera, the Hanley Foundation, Hilton Arlington and the National Endowment for the Arts.
